Our sweet little Hadley turned 5! We had a little family party in the morning with a great breakfast and some presents. That night we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner where she got to ride the saddle and yell "YEEEEEHAW!". It was hilarious. Among her presents was a beautiful Madame Alexander Tinker Bell doll from Grandma and Grandpa. She felt pretty grown up with such a fragile treasure.
It took us a few weeks to decide on a theme for her friend party. She really wanted to invite boys too, so a non-gender specific theme was important to her. We went from a jungle, to outer space to western and back again. Finally we decided there is nothing better than candy...and lots of it. Especially for such a sweet little girl with curls:) It became Hadley's Sweet Shoppe at 12345 Lollipop Lane. The invitations were like great big lollipops delivered to each friend.

One of my best party planning tips is to always create the mood where the guests first enter. A proper entrance is key to build excitement! I created a gumdrop wreath with candy gumdrops and a $3 piece of Styrofoam for the front door. Lollipops adorned the yard and wrapped candies made from fun papers sprinkled the door and windows.
Creating the Sweet Shoppe was my favorite part. I really wanted Hadley to be the central theme so I had a large picture of her along with "H"'s and "5"'s adorning the cupcakes and signs. We had lots of different candies and treats including cotton candy, gum-balls, gumdrops and starbursts. It turned out really bright and colorful.

I created HUGE pieces of candy to hang from the ceiling by wrapping up punch balls (3/$1) with cellophane and ribbon. These were great decorations and when the party was over we cut them down and sent them home with kids as favors. Cute and Cheap:)
The kids has SO much fun! We started with freeze dance to a CD of "Candy" themed songs we made. Next we played stick the lollipop in Lollipop Grove. We also played Candy Bean Bag Toss. I made simple little candy shaped bean bags and they threw them into tin cans. We did a few rounds of CANDY bingo and then made Gummy-Bracelets for our craft. With a little extra time on our hands we did several turns at Lolli, Lolli, Lolli, POP (like duck duck goose). The kids won tickets for the games they played (extras for those that won the games) so they could buy candy at the Sweet Shoppe at the end of the party.
Last we lit 5 pink candles and sang Happy Birthday to Had. She opened all her darling presents and then the kids went nuts "buying" candy at the candy shop (no pics of this - it was a feeding frenzy - hilarious).
After the candy purchases the kids went home with their favors. We had the punch balls I talked about earlier and little buckets of treasures. We included a copy of the CD with all the candy themed songs, ice cream bubbles, the hugest box of Nerds I've ever seen (Hadley's pick at the $1 store), a jack ball, candy ring and colorful pinwheel.

These are the things I love about my youngest daughter:
- She can make you smile on the hardest of days
- Her cheeks are like one of those squishy balls you can't stop squeezing
- Her curls are irresistibly bouncy
- She enjoys turkey, yogurt and carrots for lunch EVERY day
- She loves board games more than Milton Bradley himself
- Pink-a-licious is an understatement
I'm so grateful for this little ray of sunshine in my life. She's the sugar on my gumdrop and the sticky on my fingers:)
And, this sweet daddy of hers...it was HIS birthday that we had her friend party on! He turned 38 years young and couldn't be a better man. Some how his candles were blown out late that night in jammies with the olympics on in the background. Thanks, sweetheart, for being a good sport!
